The Renault Clio, one of Europe’s most popular compact cars, has received a significant update with the launch of its sixth generation at the 2025 Munich Motor Show. With 35 years of history and over 17 million units sold globally, the Clio remains a cornerstone of Renault’s lineup. The new Clio 2026 breaks with tradition, introducing a radically new design. Unlike some competitors, the Clio has not gone fully electric and is available only as a petrol or hybrid model.
New Hybrid Engine and Manual Gearbox Option
The new Clio 2026 is visually a completely different car from its predecessors. Inspired by the Renault Emblème concept, the car boasts an athletic and modern look with sharp, sculptural lines. The front is dominated by a large diamond-patterned grille and sleek, slightly curved LED headlights. Particularly striking are the new LED lights, stretching almost across the entire front and giving the car a distinctive appearance.

On the sides, the Clio retains its characteristic style with integrated rear door handles and hidden window frames, creating a streamlined look. Depending on the trim level, the car can be equipped with up to 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, a pronounced window slope, a defined boot line, and two-part taillights with a new light signature complete the design. The Clio 2026 is available in seven colors, including two entirely new ones.
Dimensions
The new Clio is based on an enhanced version of the CMF-B platform, offering more spaciousness. The track width has been widened by 3.9 cm at the front and 0.9 cm at the rear, while overall dimensions are as follows:
- Length: 4.12 m (+6.7 cm)
- Width: 1.77 m (+3.9 cm)
- Height: 1.45 m (+1.1 cm)
- Wheelbase: 2.59 m (+0.8 cm)
- Boot Space: 391 liters (petrol) / 309 liters (hybrid)

The weight has increased to 1,155 kg in entry-level models due to enhanced standard equipment, representing a gain of around 25–50 kg depending on version.
Engines
Renault has optimized the lineup, discontinuing diesel and focusing on more environmentally friendly options. Three engine variants are offered:
- 1.2 TCe Petrol: 115 hp three-cylinder engine, available with manual gearbox or 6-speed EDC dual-clutch.
- 1.2 ECO-G: 120 hp three-cylinder engine, runs on petrol and LPG (not expected in all markets).
- E-Tech Full Hybrid: New 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol with direct injection, paired with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh water-cooled battery. Produces 160 hp (+15 hp) and 172 Nm (+22 Nm). Accelerates 0–100 km/h in 8.3 seconds, average fuel consumption 3.9 l/100 km, CO₂ reduced to 89 g/km.
This hybrid is expected to be the most attractive model in many markets, competing with the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, Mazda 2 Hybrid, and MG 3+.
A More Comfortable Driving Experience
The Renault Clio 2026 is offered in three trim levels: Evolution, Techno, and Esprit Alpine. Renault promises a more comfortable driving experience thanks to a compact steering wheel that enhances agility and encourages sportier handling.

Higher trim levels feature a dual-screen setup with a central 10.12-inch display and a driver display of the same size. Ambient LED lighting offers 48 color variations, integrated into the door panels. In the Esprit Alpine, the dashboard is finished in Alcantara. The boot is more practical, with a 40 mm lower loading edge and capacity of up to 391 liters (309 liters in the hybrid). A button integrated into the tailgate further improves usability. The Clio also supports Google Automotive.
Trim Levels
- Evolution: Adaptive cruise control, speed limiter, 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, rear parking sensors, and automatic parking brake.
- Techno: Adds 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, tinted rear windows, rain sensor, automatic high-beam assist, rearview camera, Renault Multi-Sense (custom driving settings), and keyless entry.
- Esprit Alpine: Includes everything from Techno plus 18-inch alloy wheels, Alcantara interior details, wireless charger, blind-spot warning, rear emergency braking, adjustable passenger seat, and Alpine-style ground-projected logo.
Market Launch
The new Renault Clio 2026 will launch with combustion engines, including the new 1.8-liter hybrid and the 1.2-liter turbo. It is refreshing to see a compact model offered in a traditional form, while still embracing hybrid technology. Prices will be announced closer to launch, with market availability expected next year.
