Polestar recently confirmed that its upcoming key model, the compact SUV Polestar 7, will be built in Europe.
The premium compact SUV, scheduled for launch in 2028, will be produced at Volvo Cars’ new facility in Košice, Slovakia, as part of a newly signed letter of intent between Polestar and Volvo Cars.
The Polestar 7 will be developed in alignment with Polestar’s recently revealed strategy of leveraging platforms from Geely Holding Group – so maybe an updated version of the SEA platform already used for the Polestar 4.
Polestar 7 will use Volvo’s technology
The Polestar 7 will be built on Volvo Cars’ advanced technology, utilizing shared components within the group, including next-generation battery cell-to-body integration, improved battery density and performance, and newly developed in-house electric motors. The model will also undergo specific adaptations to deliver the responsive handling and sporty driving characteristics that are central to Polestar’s brand identity.
Construction of Volvo Cars’ state-of-the-art plant in Košice began in 2023. The location offers strategic logistical connections to key European markets and benefits from a well-established supplier base, positioning it as an ideal manufacturing hub for Polestar’s new model.
The Polestar 7 is set to play a pivotal role in Polestar’s future lineup, combining Scandinavian design, advanced electrification, and performance in a premium compact SUV aimed at redefining the segment. This car has the important role to launch Polestar in a new segment and broaden its target audience, joining the popular Polestar 2, which is currently the only high-volume model in the Polestar lineup. The Polestar 3, 4, and 5, in fact, are positioned higher up in the market, aiming at more specific and exclusive customer segments.
