After the L60, which is still not available in Europe and was developed to compete with the Tesla Model Y, Nio is also launching the Onvo L90 — a large SUV with 590 hp and the second model under its new brand.
The vehicle will debut at the Shanghai Auto Show, scheduled for April 20, 2025.
Onvo L90: A New Chinese Giant
Measuring over 5.1 meters in length and nearly 2 meters in width, the Onvo L90 is a large SUV with a six-seat configuration, designed for those seeking space, performance, and technology. Built on an all-wheel-drive platform, the L90 is equipped with two electric motors: a 100 kW front motor and a powerful 340 kW rear motor, for a combined output of 440 kW (590 horsepower). The top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h.

Images released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) show the SUV in a gold shade and completely undisguised, confirming that the final production version is ready. Although car manufacturers don’t usually appreciate these kinds of early leaks, Nio decided to get ahead of the news by publishing official images — the ones featured in this article — to avoid having the often unflattering ministry photos spoil the impact of the launch.

The curb weight is 2,360 kg, and the wheels will be 20 inches, with an optional upgrade to 21-inch rims. The vehicle will be offered with NMC or LFP battery packs, though the exact capacity has not yet been announced. As is tradition with Nio, it will be compatible with the company’s battery swap system.
The commercial launch is expected in the third quarter of 2025. However, the internal situation at the Onvo brand is delicate: in March, sales dropped to just 4,049 units — far from the 20,000-unit target. The disappointing performance led to the resignation of CEO Alan Ai, who has been replaced by Shen Fei, formerly head of Nio Power.
