Not all best-selling products are the most valid ones, and among those that haven’t found great success in Europe are the new Nio ET5 and ET5 Touring (you can read our review here). In the countries where they are available, these models may have been penalized by a price perceived as too high, as well as by limited brand awareness. In China, however, the two models are commercially successful: in April 2025 alone, Nio sold 2,015 ET5 units and 6,015 ET5 Touring, confirming the strong appeal of the station wagon variant.
Nio has now officially launched the updated versions of its electric sedans, featuring over 500 upgrades in design, comfort, intelligence, and performance. Prices start at 298,000 yuan or approximately €38,000, while a battery rental option is also available starting from 228,000 yuan (about €28,000), with a monthly lease fee from 728 yuan (around €90).
Familiar looks, refined details
From an aesthetic standpoint, the new models showcase a revised front design with ADB intelligent multi-beam headlights and new dual-line LED daytime running lights, paired with a more sculpted hood. The ET5 introduces a new “Sunset Purple” exterior color, while the Touring debuts in “Moonlight Silver.”

Both versions feature glossy black accents on bumpers, side skirts, and diffuser, along with new 20-inch aerodynamic five-spoke wheels.
Inside, the highlights include a 15.6-inch horizontal AMOLED touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a massive 50-inch AR head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror. Three new interior themes—purple, pearl, and grey—are introduced, while the seats benefit from an 11-layer comfort system, two-piece cushions, and high-resilience foam. Ergonomics are further enhanced with a 75 mm extension of rear seat support.

Sound insulation is improved with infrared-resistant laminated side glass, and the dual-silver-coated panoramic roof offers 99% IR rejection.
Under the hood (or rather, behind the screens), both models are powered by Nio’s proprietary NX9031 chip, which offers computational performance equivalent to four top-tier chips and now runs SkyOS on a horizontal display instead of a vertical one.

With a suite of 29 sensors, including a 300-line LiDAR and 4D imaging radar, the vehicles offer advanced lane-level predictive navigation and assisted driving features. A major OTA update set for late June will activate comprehensive guided pilot assistance.
Now with 1,055 km of range (in China)
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system remains unchanged, delivering 490 hp (150 kW front, 210 kW rear) and 700 Nm of torque. Battery options include 75 and 100 kWh packs, offering ranges of up to 585 km for the ET5 and 550 km for the ET5 Touring under the CLTC cycle. In addition, a 150 kWh battery pack, available through short-term rental, allows for a record range of 1,055 km (CLTC), which would translate to approximately 800–900 km under the European WLTP cycle.

The ET5 Touring confirms its practical character with a towing capacity of up to 1,400 kg and a tongue load of 75 kg. Premium features include 14-way power-adjustable seats with heating, ventilation, and massage, a 23-speaker 7.1.4 immersive audio system, dual 50W wireless phone chargers, and an intelligent dimmable panoramic roof (exclusive to the Touring version).
