The new MG4 2026 has already been available in China for some time, but its arrival in Europe remains uncertain. Meanwhile, SAIC-owned MG is preparing to expand the lineup with the launch of the Anxin Edition, which will make its official debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show on November 21.
This new version is generating strong interest due to the introduction of semi-solid-state batteries, a technology usually reserved for high-end electric vehicles.

MG4 with Semi-Solid-State Batteries
From the outside, the MG4 Anxin Edition remains unchanged. The dimensions stay the same: 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,551 mm high, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. Inside, the cabin maintains the familiar minimalist design, featuring a clean layout with very few physical buttons.

Behind the two-spoke steering wheel is a redesigned digital instrument panel, while the center of the dashboard houses a large 15.6-inch touchscreen. The infotainment system—developed together with Oppo—runs on the Snapdragon 8155 chip, ensuring smooth performance and advanced connectivity.
The major innovation is found in the battery pack. Developed jointly by SAIC and QingTao Energy, the semi-solid-state pack offers higher energy density than traditional lithium-ion batteries. Its capacity remains unchanged at 53.95 kWh, the same as the conventional battery already offered on the new MG4.

The electric motor is also unchanged, continuing to deliver 120 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque. The model reaches an estimated 530 km of range according to the CLTC cycle, which is more optimistic than European test procedures.
A Step Forward for Accessible EV Technology
On paper, the MG4 Anxin Edition highlights MG’s ambition to bring advanced EV technologies to more accessible price brackets. SAIC is also investing in the development of fully solid-state batteries, which remain an industry-wide goal for the coming years.
In China, regulatory authorities are preparing to rename semi-solid-state batteries as “solid-liquid batteries” to distinguish them clearly from the fully solid-state systems currently under development.
The existing MG4 lineup in China is priced between 68,800 and 102,800 yuan (approximately €8,350 to €12,500), positioning it as one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market. Whether this new semi-solid-state version will arrive in Europe is still unknown.
