New Lexus NX 2027 offers over 100 km of electric range and fast charging

The new Lexus NX 2027 debuts with sixth generation hybrid powertrains. The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid delivers 307 hp, a 23 kWh battery, over 100 km of electric range and DC fast charging, while the NX 350h full hybrid produces 199 hp.

European arrival set for spring 2027

The new NX represents a substantial update to the second generation model introduced in 2021. Lexus builds on the existing platform with a sixth generation hybrid system, a stiffer structure, redesigned interiors and new digital services.

European sales begin in spring 2027. The range keeps the two main electrified powertrains already familiar from the previous NX 350h and 450h+, but the new generation brings changes to power output, batteries, electrical architecture and performance.

NX 450h+ passes 100 km of electric range

The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.5 litre four cylinder petrol engine with electric motors and all wheel drive. Combined output reaches 226 kW, equivalent to 307 hp. Electric range increases by almost 40 percent, passing 100 km on the WLTP cycle.

Battery capacity grows from 18 to 23 kWh

The NX 450h+’s lithium ion battery grows from 18 to 23 kWh, a 30 percent increase. Lexus places the battery under the floor to keep the centre of gravity low and improve weight distribution, with cells arranged transversely to add lateral rigidity and let the battery function as a structural element within the platform.

The larger battery also supports the system’s higher output, which rises 8 percent from the previous 292 hp to the new 307 hp.

DC fast charging to 80 percent in 30 minutes

The NX 450h+ is the first Lexus plug-in hybrid compatible with DC fast charging, with a DC charging port fitted as standard across the range. Connected to a compatible charger, the battery goes from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes, adding versatility for longer journeys by letting drivers recover a significant share of electric range during a stop rather than relying on hybrid mode for the whole trip.

The charging flap now opens electrically, and the NX 450h+ also includes a 1,500 W AC power outlet for connecting compatible external equipment.

NX 450h+ sprints to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds

The higher output cuts the 0 to 100 km/h time to 6.1 seconds. All wheel drive uses a rear electric motor, and Lexus has widened the conditions under which the AWD system can intervene, increasing torque availability at the rear axle during launches, cornering and low grip situations.

Maximum towing capacity reaches 1,500 kg, making the plug-in hybrid better suited to towing trailers, small boats and caravans within the homologated limits.

NX 350h full hybrid produces 199 hp

The NX 350h uses a full hybrid system pairing a 2.5 litre petrol engine with a continuously variable electric transmission. Combined output is 146 kW, equivalent to 199 hp, with the new architecture focused on reducing weight, improving efficiency and lowering emissions.

The lithium ion battery shares its structure with the one developed for the new ES 350h. A revised cooling system reduces the number of cells, bringing battery mass down from 32.7 to 23.5 kg.

The NX 350h will be available with front wheel or all wheel drive. The AWD version sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds, while the FWD variant takes 7.7 seconds. Both configurations reach a towing capacity of 1,500 kg.

Sixth generation hybrid tech cuts weight and size

Both models use Lexus’ sixth generation hybrid technology, which combines the power control unit and transmission into a single compact component, following an approach similar to the eAxle units used on electric vehicles.

The new unit weighs 10 kg less and is 10 cm shorter in height. Its lower positioning helps reduce the centre of gravity and gives more flexibility in packaging other components.

The inverter uses silicon carbide semiconductors to limit electrical losses, while the new control unit manages the interaction between the combustion engine and electric units more precisely, smoothing transitions. Both the NX 450h+ and NX 350h are designed to meet the Euro 7 standard.

Familiar proportions, updated design

The new Lexus NX measures 4,690 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width and 1,660 mm in height. The wheelbase stays unchanged at 2,690 mm, while overall length grows by 30 mm.

The silhouette keeps the wide, relatively low stance of the previous model. The front end introduces an hourglass shaped grille without a traditional frame, integrated directly into the bodywork surfaces.

New all weather headlights combine adaptive high beams, indicators and headlight washers. A thin upper daytime running light and two parallel indicator bars create a more distinctive light signature.

At the rear, a new L shaped light bar connects to an illuminated Lexus badge. 18 or 20 inch wheels and dark exterior trim replace much of the previous chrome detailing.

F Sport trim adds 20 inch wheels

The F Sport trim uses gloss black elements for the roof rails, spoiler, bumpers and mouldings. Aerodynamic 20 inch wheels feature a new dual spoke design.

Red brake calipers and aerodynamic elements on the rear bumper corners reinforce the sporty look while helping manage airflow and stability at higher speeds.

The Titanium Carbide Grey finish is reserved for the F Sport version. The range includes nine exterior colours in total, including Sonic Platinum and the khaki green Sonic Tellus.

Dashboard built around 12.3 and 14 inch displays

The cabin adopts a new horizontal dashboard layout inspired by the latest Lexus ES and TZ models. The 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster and 14 inch central touchscreen are aligned to reduce eye and head movement.

The LexusConnect system offers four times the processing power, eight times the memory and 256 GB of storage compared with before. Navigation directions can also be displayed within the instrument cluster.

The Responsive Hidden Switches remain visually integrated into the dashboard and light up as a hand approaches, with physical feedback confirming activation without relying solely on the screen.

The new Smart Digital Key+ can be stored in the Apple or Android smartphone wallet, or on an Apple Watch, with owners able to share up to six additional keys with other users.

Sensory Concierge coordinates lighting, climate and scent

Higher trim levels introduce the Lexus Sensory Concierge, which coordinates lighting, music, climate control, seat temperature and cabin fragrance to create different atmospheres inside the car.

Drivers can choose between Inspire, Radiance and Revitalise modes through the infotainment system. Lighting offers 50 colours and dynamic sequences, also shown on the central display.

The fragrances were developed with Givaudan, a first for Lexus, and are released through the climate system to match the selected multisensory setting.

Lexus Safety System+ extends its detection range

All trim levels feature the latest generation of Lexus Safety System+. The new sensors increase horizontal field of view by 115 percent and detection distance by 170 percent.

The pre-collision system covers more scenarios, including intersections, emergency manoeuvres and unintended low speed acceleration. Emergency Steering Assist can provide active support during an evasive manoeuvre.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses map data to anticipate curves, roundabouts, intersections, toll booths and stop signs, and can also recognise the behaviour of the vehicle two cars ahead, initiating a more gradual deceleration when needed.

Lane Departure Alert now also detects poles and roadside barriers, while Lane Tracing Assist and the Emergency Driving Stop System can remain active while towing a compatible trailer.

A camera monitors the driver’s attention and condition. If the driver fails to respond, the Emergency Driving Stop System progressively reduces speed, brings the vehicle to a stop and activates the hazard lights.

Four trim levels available

The European range is structured into Business, Premium+, Luxury and F Sport trims. Standard equipment across the range includes all weather headlights, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, an electric tailgate, the 12.3 inch digital instrument cluster, the 14 inch display and Lexus Safety System+.

Premium+ adds ventilated front seats, memory function, a 360 degree panoramic camera, wireless charging and multicolour ambient lighting. Luxury adds leather upholstery, 20 inch wheels, heated rear seats, a head-up display, automatic parking and the Sensory Concierge.

Luxury and F Sport can be fitted with an optional package including a panoramic roof, a digital rear view mirror and a 17 speaker Mark Levinson sound system.
