Citroën has just unveiled the new generation of the Citroen C5 Aircross, which not only retains its distinctive design but also introduces an all-electric powertrain. With this, Citroën is ready to take on rivals like the Škoda Enyaq and beyond.

Citroen C5 Aircross: Larger Than Ever

The updated C5 Aircross follows Citroën’s new design language, first introduced with the latest C3 and subsequently carried over to the C4, C4 X, and Berlingo. The front end is sharper and more modern, while the body has been made more aerodynamic to improve energy efficiency across all powertrain options. The SUV now rides on 20-inch alloy wheels and offers a 200 mm ground clearance.

The rear end retains the bold LED taillights seen on the concept model, adding a touch of French flair to an otherwise practical design. The only notable differences from concept to production are more conventional door handles and thicker pillars.

The new C5 Aircross has grown in size, now measuring 4,652 mm in length with a 2,784 mm wheelbase – increases of 150 mm and 60 mm over its predecessor. That means more space inside the cabin and better comfort for all passengers. In other words, it has become a significantly larger vehicle than before.

C-Zen Lounge

Inside, Citroën introduces the new “C-Zen Lounge” interior, with a focus on comfort and spaciousness. The floating center console is dominated by a large portrait-oriented infotainment screen called “Cascade”, which Citroën claims is the largest central HD touchscreen ever fitted in a Stellantis vehicle. The screen combines fixed and customizable sections and is flanked by physical buttons for intuitive operation.

Additional features include a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, head-up display, sleek gear selector, wireless smartphone charging, and multiple practical storage solutions, including cupholders and a generous center armrest. Comfort remains a top priority with Citroën’s signature plush seating and advanced suspension setup, making the C5 Aircross an ideal car for commuters and families alike. Thanks to the larger platform, there’s increased legroom and headroom in the back, and the boot now offers 651 liters of space regardless of the drivetrain. Furthermore, there’s an additional 75 liters of underfloor storage and 40 liters spread throughout the cabin.

EV-Ready – New Platform and Powertrains

The new C5 Aircross is built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, also used in the Peugeot e-3008, Opel Grandland, and DS N.8. This enables a fully electric version alongside mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. At launch, two hybrid versions will be available.

The first is a mild-hybrid, featuring a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine combined with a small electric motor integrated into a dual-clutch transmission. Power comes from a 0.9 kWh battery located beneath the driver’s seat, producing a total of 145 hp.

The second is a plug-in hybrid, pairing a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a 150 hp electric motor, delivering a combined output of 195 hp, the same used on the new Grandland we liked here. This version uses a 21 kWh battery, providing up to 85 km of electric-only driving range.

The fully electric C5 Aircross Electric comes in two versions. One has a 73 kWh battery, offering up to 520 km of range, while a larger 97 kWh battery enables up to 680 km on a single charge. Depending on the battery and motor configuration, the EV delivers either 210 or 230 hp, both with front-wheel drive. For Denmark and Norway, we expect only the electric version to be available – as is the case with its Peugeot and Opel siblings.
