Audi has announced the upcoming launch of the A2 e-tron, a fully electric entry-level model set to reshape the compact premium vehicle segment. The new model family will make its world premiere in fall 2026, marking a significant milestone in Audi’s transformation toward an all-electric future.
A Promise to Customers
At Audi’s Annual Media Conference, CEO Gernot Döllner unveiled the A2 e-tron as the brand’s answer to evolving customer demands for accessible electric mobility. “We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever,” Döllner stated.
The A2 e-tron represents Audi’s commitment to democratizing premium electric vehicles, offering design sketches already revealing a sleek, modern silhouette that captures the essence of contemporary urban mobility.
Targeting the Growing Compact EV Market
The global appetite for compact electric vehicles continues to surge, particularly in Europe’s major metropolitan areas. Audi’s new entry-level model is strategically designed to capture this expanding market segment, appealing to a broad international customer base that prioritizes everyday practicality, sustainability, and digital connectivity alongside premium quality.
The A2 e-tron strengthens Audi’s increasingly youthful and electric portfolio, opening doors to new customer groups seeking modern, relevant mobility solutions. By positioning itself in the compact premium segment, Audi aims to attract environmentally conscious urban drivers who refuse to compromise on brand prestige or technological innovation.
A Legacy Reimagined
The model’s nomenclature is deliberately purposeful. The original Audi A2, which debuted over 25 years ago, revolutionized perceptions of efficiency and urban mobility. The new A2 e-tron carries forward this pioneering spirit, translating the iconic model’s DNA into the electric age while maintaining the accessibility and practical focus that defined its predecessor.
This continuation honors Audi’s heritage while simultaneously charting a bold course toward future generations of drivers seeking responsible, efficient transportation solutions.
German Manufacturing and Job Security
In a move that underscores Audi’s commitment to preserving German automotive excellence, the A2 e-tron will be manufactured at the company’s historic Ingolstadt plant—Audi’s home in Germany. This strategic decision represents far more than a logistical choice; it signals a dedication to transforming European manufacturing infrastructure and safeguarding skilled employment in the region.
“The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and also for our German home. With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany,'” CEO Döllner emphasized.
The selection of Ingolstadt as the production hub reflects Audi’s broader initiative to establish Germany and Europe as leading centers for electric vehicle manufacturing, reinforcing the continent’s position in the global EV revolution.
Completing a Transformed Portfolio
Audi’s model strategy continues to accelerate its electrification agenda. Following the introduction of over 20 new models during 2024 and 2025—representing the industry’s youngest portfolio—the company maintains its aggressive expansion trajectory into 2026.
The year ahead will see two strategic product launches that perfect Audi’s lineup at both extremes: the full-size Audi Q9 at the premium end and the A2 e-tron in the compact entry segment. This two-pronged approach ensures comprehensive market coverage while reinforcing Audi’s position as a leader in both accessible and luxury electric mobility.
