While the standard variant of the electric GLC (the spiritual successor to the EQC) already made its official debut a few months ago , what you see in these photos is something far more exclusive: the prototype of the high-performance AMG version. We spotted the car during one of our test drives in North of Swedn, where car producers typically test their products during winter.

A heart with over 900 hp?

Don’t be fooled by the “dazzle” camouflage. Underneath that wrap lies the new AMG.EA architecture, designed specifically to handle power outputs that until recently were reserved for hypercars. The rumors are clear: the future AMG GLC EV could feature up to three axial-flux motors (technology derived from the Vision AMG concept), capable of delivering a combined output exceeding 900 hp.

From the shot sent in by our reader, several key elements can be spotted that confirm Affalterbach’s signature:
  • Widened track: The car appears noticeably more “planted” to the ground compared to prototypes of the standard version.
  • Aggressive aerodynamics: Even under wraps, the front bumper appears to house larger air intakes for cooling the 800-volt battery pack.
  • Braking system: Looking closely through the spokes of the black test wheels, generously sized discs are visible — necessary to bring to a halt a vehicle whose weight, thanks to the batteries, will comfortably exceed 2 tonnes.

While the standard GLC 400 promises around 700 km of range (WLTP) and charges at 330 kW, the AMG version will focus entirely on discharge density. There is talk of new cylindrical cells with a specific chemistry to maintain consistent performance even after repeated 0–100 km/h runs (which should come in under 3 seconds).

When will we see it?

If the standard electric GLC is set to hit the road within a few months, for the “AMG treatment” we’ll have to wait until late 2026 or early 2027. Mercedes is using these final days of arctic cold to fine-tune the torque vectoring system and all-wheel steering — essential for making a SUV of this size feel agile.
