At the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, McLaren took the stage with the global debut of its most powerful road-going car to date: the McLaren W1. With a jaw-dropping 1,275 horsepower from a hybrid V8 powertrain, active Formula 1-inspired aerodynamics, and just 399 units produced—all of which are already spoken for—the W1 continues McLaren’s prestigious “1-series” lineage alongside icons like the P1 and F1.

This year’s event also marks the 30th anniversary of McLaren’s historic 1995 Le Mans win, a victory honored with the return of the legendary F1 GTR #59 and the debut of the new limited-run 750S Le Mans.

A Track-Bred Hybrid Monster: McLaren W1

Beneath its sculpted carbon-fiber bodywork, the McLaren W1 hides a hybridized twin-turbo V8 engine pushing 1,275 hp exclusively to the rear wheels. Developed for ultimate precision both on road and track, the W1 integrates active aerodynamic systems that optimize downforce and stability at high speeds.

Every component is engineered to maximize mechanical feedback and driver involvement. From the chassis to the drivetrain, McLaren’s focus is clear: visceral performance with razor-sharp responsiveness.

Despite its extreme nature, the W1 is fully road-legal—though it’s likely most will spend time in private collections or on closed circuits. McLaren is showcasing the W1 inside its dedicated “McLaren House” pavilion at Goodwood, flanked by the legendary P1 and F1.

McLaren’s presence at Goodwood isn’t just about the future. It’s also a deep tribute to the past—specifically the marque’s unforgettable 1995 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. To honor the occasion, the F1 GTR #59, driven to victory by JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas, and Masanori Sekiya, returns to the hill climb in a dynamic demonstration piloted by Lehto himself.

Also taking a bow is the McLaren 750S Le Mans, a special edition limited to just 50 cars. Built to commemorate the 1995 triumph, it features bespoke MSO (McLaren Special Operations) elements such as the High Downforce Kit, a modern nod to the legendary F1 LM road car. With enhanced aerodynamic efficiency and distinctive styling, it’s a collector’s dream with track-ready performance.
