We will get our first official look at Genesis’ highly anticipated GV60 Magma by the end of the year. As the luxury brand’s first high-performance electric vehicle, the GV60 Magma represents a bold new step in Genesis’ electrification journey—one that blends power with refinement.

A new chapter for Genesis

Genesis says the GV60 Magma will “set a new standard for global luxury and high performance.” Although it promises blistering speed and power, the company insists this isn’t just a track-focused machine—it’s engineered to deliver comfort and everyday usability as well.

The GV60 Magma has already been put through some of the world’s most demanding test environments to prove its capabilities. Genesis confirmed on September 30 that the performance EV has undergone trials in the United States, Sweden, New Zealand, South Korea, and more, ensuring it maintains stability at high speeds while offering a luxurious ride in any condition.

Global testing in extreme conditions

In Sweden, the GV60 Magma was tested for launch performance and chassis control on icy terrain, while California’s Proving Ground hosted evaluations in scorching heat, including cooling system assessments and overheat protection.

In New Zealand, the luxury EV faced rugged mountain terrain at an altitude of 1,500 km, tackling snowstorms and steep inclines to validate braking, handling, and stability in extreme winter conditions.

Back in South Korea, Genesis recently completed driving evaluations focused on blending ride comfort with high performance. A company official explained: “The numerous driving tests conducted around the world went beyond simple performance verification. They were a continuous process to simultaneously capture the charm of high performance and the value of comfort.”

More than raw speed

Genesis promises the GV60 Magma will deliver a “differentiated driving experience,” drawing on advanced technologies the brand has developed over the past decade. While it will certainly appeal to performance enthusiasts, Genesis stresses that it is also designed to be a comfortable daily driver.

The GV60 Magma has already been spotted testing on the Nürburgring in Germany, tearing through corners with minimal camouflage. Early expectations suggest it will produce over 600 hp, possibly pushing closer to 700 hp.

For comparison, the current Genesis GV60 Performance model delivers up to 429 hp and 700 Nm of torque, launching from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. The Magma version will raise the stakes significantly and could include features inspired by Hyundai’s N Division, such as torque distribution, Grin Boost, Launch Control, and e-Shift, allowing drivers to fine-tune power delivery and performance settings.
