In Pisa—chosen for its “scientific and technological excellence”—the 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale makes its debut, showcasing a refreshed design mainly at the front, new colors and wheels, and a wider range of trim levels.

There are updates under the hood too: the 130-hp mild hybrid is gone, while the plug-in hybrid has been revised to deliver 270 hp (previously 280 hp).

No More Off-Center License Plate

The front end stands out with a new three-dimensional concave grille, inspired by the historic 33 Stradale and GT 2000, and a redesigned “trilobo” motif that emphasizes visual width and solidity. The lower air intakes recall the Junior, while the side openings draw on the racing language of the Giulia GTA and GTAm. In short, the Tonale remains full of Alfa Romeo “Easter eggs” from the brand’s past.

The side profile is enhanced by 19-inch “Stile” and 20-inch “Fori” alloy wheels—lighter and more modern—while new black-and-white badges and a black “Tonale” script on the rear, first seen on the Milano Cortina 2026 launch edition, complete the refreshed look.

Inside, the cabin evolves with premium materials and finishes. New combinations include red leather seats with matching stitching or two-tone black and white Alcantara, paired with an Alcantara-covered dashboard featuring contrasting stitching.

The front seats now offer eight-way electric adjustment, four-way lumbar support, as well as heating and ventilation. The steering wheel and windscreen washer nozzles are also heated, while the center console introduces a new rotary gear selector alongside solid aluminum paddle shifters.

A unique highlight of the Milano Cortina 2026 edition is a multicolor ambient light inspired by the Biscione, adding a distinctive touch of modernity and character.

The new Tonale expands its color palette to eight shades, introducing three new metallic colors: Rosso Brera, Verde Monza, and Giallo Ocra. These join existing hues such as Nero Alfa, Bianco Alfa, Grigio Vesuvio, Verde Montreal, and Blu Misano. A contrasting black roof, also available with a sunroof, further enhances the SUV’s sporty stance.

The 2026 Tonale introduces new technology designed to simplify driving and improve safety. The 12.3-inch “Cannocchiale” digital cluster and 10.25-inch Alfa Connect infotainment system deliver a fluid, customizable experience with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and over-the-air updates.

Powertrains

The new Tonale features a balanced chassis, McPherson suspension with sporty calibration, Brembo four-piston brakes, and the most direct steering in its class (13.6:1 ratio). DSV electronic suspension and FSD shock absorbers ensure a perfect balance between comfort and handling, while the Q4 all-wheel-drive system in the Plug-In Hybrid guarantees optimal control and traction.

  • 1.5 Turbo Hybrid – 175 hp, 7-speed dual-clutch transmission
  • 1.6 Diesel – 130 hp, 6-speed automatic
  • Plug-In Hybrid Q4 – 270 hp, top performance and efficiency

Safety and Assistance Systems

The Tonale is equipped with Level 2 ADAS including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering, Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Path, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Additional highlights include a 360° “drone view” camera, semi-automatic parking, a 470W Harman Kardon sound system with 14 speakers, a ventilated wireless charger, and dual-zone climate control with an AQS air quality system.

A Broader and More Accessible Range

The new lineup strengthens Tonale’s position in the premium C-SUV segment, keeping current prices while adding a more accessible entry-level version. The trim levels include Tonale, Sprint, Ti, and Veloce, each offering richer and more distinctive equipment.

  • Tonale: Full LED 3+3 headlights, 17” wheels, full infotainment, advanced safety systems.
  • Sprint: Gloss black body kit, 18” wheels, built-in navigation, multicolor ambient lighting.
  • Ti: Heated and ventilated leather seats, aluminum paddles, premium finishes.
